How to find the real price of a game in Australia

Avoid overpaying: where to check, what to watch for, and when to wait.

Game prices in Australia vary a lot between stores and change often. Here's how to check you're getting a fair deal.

1. Check at least three stores

Compare the Steam price with authorised key stores before you buy.

2. Compare Steam with key stores

Steam sets local AUD prices. Authorised key stores like Humble, Fanatical and GreenManGaming often run discounts. Our PC games page shows the Steam price for your country and quick links to the others.

3. Avoid grey-market keys

Only buy keys from authorised stores. Grey-market key resellers can sell revoked or region-locked keys.

4. Ask about price matching

Some Australian retailers will price-match a competitor's in-stock price. Policies change, so check the store's current terms.

5. Know the sale seasons

Big sales commonly happen around end of financial year, Black Friday, Boxing Day and Steam's seasonal sales. If a game isn't urgent, waiting can pay off.
